About the event leader

Samreen Munim became interested in birds after taking an ornithology course in undergrad, and has been hooked since. She went on to spend time volunteering at the Long Point Bird Observatory and completed a MSc related to how bird songs are influenced by species interactions. Now, she has been a Forest Birds at Risk Field Biologist with Birds Canada for three years, where she works with public and private landowners across southern Ontario to survey woodlots for species at risk.

About Spring Arbour Farm Nature Reserve

Spring Arbour Farm Nature Reserve is a restored landscape along Venison Creek, once an exhausted farm and now a thriving conservation area. Thanks to the dedication of Ken McMullen and Joan Shirlow, the land has been regenerated with native plantings, wildlife habitat, and organic stewardship. Today, it serves as an important migratory stopover for birds, Monarch Butterflies, and bats. Visitors can explore the Arboretum Tour, a self-guided experience highlighting 13 native tree species and their ecological significance, with interpretive signage generously sponsored by TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.
